The Haunted House is full of animations, sounds, tricks and treats! Almost anything you click on holds a surprise. Be sure to explore a bit before you enter the house. There are plenty of ghouls and goblins lurking about!

The Haunted House is recommended for ages 7 and above.
The Haunted House, stack version, requires the HyperCard player or HyperCard 2.1 or above. At least 1200k in RAM should be allocated to HyperCard (more is better, of course). In order to adjust the amount of RAM allocated, select either the HyperCard application or Player, then select the "Get Info" item under the "File" menu. Then, in the resulting dialog box, type the new RAM amount in the "Preferred Size" field.
Also required is the QuickTime system extension. If this is not already installed in the Extensions folder inside your System Folder, you should be able to find it on your system disks, or on most Mac-oriented BBS services. If you have System 7 or above, Simply drag the QuickTime extension to your System Folder, and click "ok" in the resulting dialog box.
IMPORTANT: The Haunted House comes in a folder that includes several additional files. You must have the files "Witch.movie" and "HeadInBottle.movie" in the same folder as The Haunted House stack. Don't move them out of the folder, or the stack will not operate properly.
Additional features of the Haunted House will be enabled if you have the Speech Manager system extension (The Haunted House will work fine without Speech Manager - you just won't experience everything that it can do). The Speech Manager extension has been available at ftp.apple.com and on several BBS services. Speech Manager comes in several versions together with additional text-to-speech generators and voices. If you have a 68030 processor or above, The Haunted House works well with the most current versions (as of 10/94) of Speech Manager - version 1.2.1 , and MacinTalk 2 - version 1.2. In my experience, these versions of Speech Manager and MacinTalk do not work well on 68020 LCs. Using Speech Manager version 1.1.1 only, without MacinTalk, does seem to work with these older LCs. Unfortunately, version 1.1.1 is difficult to find. Hopefully, Apple will eventually get this all sorted out and will make Speech Manager readily available. The newest version of Macintalk 2 and it's voices provides good quality speech in a small RAM and disk footprint - much smaller than MacinTalk Pro. This is something Apple should be promoting!
